 4. Configuring Trillian
 4.1. Preferences
  Windows




Flash windows when new text arrives: If a new message is received, its window will flash in the Windows Taskbar
  • Stop flashing windows after 10 flashes: If checked, flashing will cease after 10 flashes


Window Positioning
  • Attatch to container "Away" when away: If checked, messages will be hidden in a container named 'Away' accessible through Events
  • Don't position based on previous location: If checked, Trillian will not recall the 'last closed' container/position of windows when they are opened


Focus Windows
  • When a window is not active (does not affect windows in containers)
    Turn it transparent "X" % Visible: Set transparency for out-of-focus windows (only for Operating Systems that support transparency)
  • Turn it black and white (high-performance machines only): Set out of focus windows to turn black and white (hardware intensive!)
  • Do Nothing: Keeps out of focus windows from changing at all


Miscellaneous
  • Close window after sending a message: Closes window when message has been sent.
  • Expand task item group if new item appears underneath: With "MyStuff", it shows all pending activities and expands new activities when checked
  • Highlight the task item on activity: When there is activity on the list, this option will highlight it

 ajmTo toggle a Status Window's visibility, click on a specific medium's icon at the bottom of the contact list, then choose Toggle Status Window
 InvarielThere's also a mostly hidden tray on the right side of your main Trillian Window. Look for it, it's there. Popping it open contains handy links like the Trillian site, and the Status Windows for every medium that you are connected to.

        Display



Medium Specific
  • Apply to all mediums: With this checked, everything in this section will apply to all of your connections.
  • Show Text Formatting: Check this if you want to see your buddies font and color changes.
  • Show Emoticons: Shows emotes like smiley faces if your buddy types them in. If unchecked you will see the characters :)
  • Play Emotisounds: Plays the sounds attached to an emote if there is one included.


Show Time Stamps Shows timestamps in the chat window as well as the log
  • Format: Choose how you want the timestamps to be displayed.


Miscellaneous
  • Autofit images into display: Changes the size of images to fit in the window.
  • Links activate on double click: Double clicking a link in a chat window will take you to that window. Left unchecked, single clicking performs the action.
  • Links open in a new browser: Links will open a new browser when clicked. If unchecked the link will activate in your current browser.
  • Text buffer (in lines): The amount of text to show within the display area of the chat window (if you have "Auto show history within new message windows" checked in the Preferences->Message History section
  • Scale Emoticons to size: Makes the emotes the same size as your font.
  • Show last focus line marker: When chatting with a buddy and you change focus, Trillian will put a line in the conversation to show where you left off (your window only)

        Edit



History
  • Edit History ____ lines: The amount of past conversations you want displayed in the windows.
  • Use up/down for history always (normally ctrl-up/down): Uses up/down for history


Sending Messages
  • Select which key or series of keys will skip to the next line or send the message.


Miscellaneous
  • Control-u clears line: Control-u clears the line
  • Convert Tabs to __ spaces on paste: Converts tab to the specified number of spaces when you copy/paste text into Trillian.
  • Control-e shows emoticon window: Pressing control+e will bring up a window where you can choose emoticons from a list

        Fonts



Default Font
  • Apply to all mediums: If this is checked your changes to the fonts will apply to all of your connections. If you want to have different fonts for different mediums, uncheck the box, select the medium, and make your changes. Trillian will remember your settings for each individual medium.

        Colors



Use colors specified in skin
  • Check this box to use the colors that were coded into the skin when it was created. If it's unchecked you can choose the colors using the section below.



        Initial



Mediums
  • Apply to all mediums: If checked, Trillian will apply the settings below to all Instant Messaging mediums' windows


On creation of a chat window...
  • Automatically show the window on my desktop: Show new messages on your window when they arrive
  • Auto-minimize the window: If checked, new windows will pop up, but will be automatically minimized out of view when received
  • Hide the window and notify me via the systray: Hide new windows until you choose to acknowledge them. Use the 'event button' in the contact list to see specific windows or click on the system tray icon to have all windows shown. Use this if you play games.



Below preferences are for new windows not yet seen by Trillian.

Status Windows
  • Initially show status windows: If checked, status windows will be popped up when a new connection is created. Otherwise, these windows will be hidden. Use medium icons in contact list to show these windows as needed



Size, location and container
  • Apply to all window types: If checked, apply settings below to all types of windows for selected medium(s)"
  • Size: Input height and width, in pixels, for the default window size."
  • X and Y: Relates to the X and Y position of newly created windows."
  • Initial Container: Creates a default container for new message windows."
  • Transparency: Sets default window transparency. Does not apply to windows in containers.

        Word Matching



Word matching allows you to set events to happen when certain words appear in chat windows.

Use the "Add" button to add new events like playing a sound when someone types your name into a window.
